Provenance Certificates contain valuable information about the origin and previous owners (provenance) of rare stamps in GB Philately, based on over 100 years of philatelic history.
The source of information for the Provenance Certificates is the CARD INDEX REGISTER probably the most comprehensive in the world for rare and valuable items from Great Britain philately. On over 60,000 index cards, there are illustrations, auction or trade descriptions, estimated values or auction results and fixed prices. The Card Index Register can help answer these questions:
- When, where and for what price was a rare philatelic item offered and auctioned ?
- Of which famous collections had it previously been a part ?
- How many similar examples have been recorded ?
- How was its quality judged in the past, e.g. when offered at auction ?
